Glenn Hoddle’s advice For Chelsea to Sign Victor Osimhen over Manchester United

Former England and Tottenham player Glenn Hoddle urged Chelsea to recruit Victor Osimhen of Napoli this summer rather than Manchester United. Given that Chelsea has only scored 29 goals in the Premier League this season, their recent 0-0 tie with Liverpool at Stamford Bridge served as a stark reminder of their poor goal scoring ability.

With 25 goals in 29 appearances for Napoli this season, Victor Osimhen has been in fantastic form and is one of the most sought-after players in the forthcoming transfer window. Erik ten Hag is reportedly interested in adding him to his team, while Manchester United is also rumoured to be interested.

According to Glenn Hoddle, Osimhen is the only player Chelsea needs to sign this summer since “they really need a No. 9 and a striker.” He also thinks that rather than entirely rebuilding the roster, a future Chelsea manager would simply need to concentrate on bringing in a striker.

Hoddle thinks Chelsea already has a potent roster, but that it has to be balanced by letting certain players go. He believes that the only player required would be a No. 9, as Chelsea’s back players and midfield are strong and capable enough. He adds that Chelsea is being severely hurt this season by the conversion rate.

Kai Havertz is not a No. 9 and prefers to float and drop off, according to Hoddle, who also notes that Liverpool had success with Firmino moving towards the ball, Mane, and Salah playing as center-forwards. According to him, Chelsea would have a nice balance with a striker moving towards the ball and midfield runners into the penalty area.

According to Hoddle, Chelsea’s team is full of creators, therefore a new striker joining the team would be optimistic about his prospects. He thinks Osimhen is the solution to Chelsea’s issues and that he would score a tonne of goals if signed. He does point out that other teams are coming after him, though.

Hoddle also thinks that if Thomas Tuchel had remained at Chelsea, the team would be prospering now. Having won the Champions League, he believes that Tuchel had the groundwork for true success at Chelsea and that, had he been given the funds to purchase what he desired, he would have been fantastic.

Hoddle also hypothesises that Tuchel, who left Dortmund to work with Tuchel then departed again, may have gotten the finest performance out of Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang.
