The Yorkshireman has been practising all across the nation, including trips to London where he faced Martin O’Donnell and Anthony Hamilton, two seasoned players with a plethora of expertise and experience. Hugill is motivated by Joe O’Connor, a player just a year his junior who has had an excellent season, and he hopes to face off against him soon.
Although losing to Neil Robertson in the Crucible last year, Hugill got it there and performed admirably. Since then, he has not advanced as much as he would have wanted, but he is making an effort to avoid contemplating the future too much and to concentrate only on the work at hand.

He is aware that there are many excellent players in the world and that he should not set himself up for failure.
This year’s amateur star George Pragnell will be the first opponent he will face in the qualifying rounds. Hugill knows Pragnell has been playing well this season since they faced off against one other in Q School, and he anticipates a challenging contest.
He recognises that entering the qualifiers in round one is difficult, but he thinks it may also be a benefit since he will have played a game more than his rivals and will be sharper and more certain.
Hugill practises with other top-notch athletes at Victoria’s Academy in Sheffield when he is not travelling for practise. Because to the presence of so many European players, the facility has not been significantly impacted by the bans of several players for match-fixing.
